Once registered and paid the next step is to text me when your baby is born. I will come within 24 hours to pick up the placenta at your birth location (if within the Grand Valley. If outside my local area additional travel fee apply or you can coordinate with me to bring it to me at your convenance. If delivering at the Birth Center or either hospital be sure to tell your nurse you are encapsulating your placenta. They will have you fill out a form and then they will do the rest. It's that easy. If a home birth I will send you instructions what to do until I can come, or you bring to me.

Once I am finished with the encapsulation, I will bring it to your home (if in the Grand Junction area. If outside the Grand Valley I do have additional travel fee or you can arrange for pick up.) I strive to have it back to you as quickly as possible. My goal is 2-3 days postpartum, but I guarantee to be finished within 7 days.

What is a placenta?

The placenta is a flat organ that attaches to the side of a pregnant mother's uterus and grows alongside the baby. The umbilical cord attaches the baby to the placenta. During pregnancy, the placenta provides the baby with oxygen and nutrients. After birth, the placenta is expelled. Even after birth, the placenta retains hormones and nutrients including iron. Since they were produced by the mother's own body, these hormones and nutrients are quickly absorbed. Many women have reported benefits from taking placenta pills months to years after encapsulation.

Benefits of Placenta Capsules*

  • Restores and increases iron levels after birth

  • Encourages healthy breastmilk production

  • Increases energy postpartum

  • Increases CRH production (stress-reducing hormone)

  • Balances mood

  • Combats headaches

  • Combats menstrual/menopause symptoms

*Most benefits are gathered from anecdotal reports. Evidence based birth website does have links to studies done.
